WHY I AM RUNNING

“I am running for the position of Jackson Town Justice because I believe that every person should be treated consistently, with fairness and open-mindedness within the framework of the law, and every person should have access to the legal system.”

Anita's Background

  • Resident of the Town of Jackson since December 1989.

  • Volunteer member of the Cambridge Rescue Squad (CVRS) since 2019 and currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors.

  • Certified as an Advanced EMT.

  • Works in the CVRS Community Paramedicine Program, performing home visits to patients needing close medical monitoring between medical appointments. 

  • Member and Officer with the Batten Kill Valley Runners for nearly 35 years, and served as the Race Director for the Race for the River! Held in Jackson.

  • Secretary to the Holy Cross Church Parish Council.

  • Oldest of nine children with 18 nieces and nephews.

  • Adirondack 46er, along with the completion of 30 Adirondack winter peaks. 

Anita's Qualifications

  • Retired with nearly 40 years of experience working in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Department of Health.

  • Responsible for the enforcement of environmental health regulations in Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties for the New York State Department of Health.  

  • Served as an Administrative Tribunal Representative of Limited Authority, otherwise known as an Informal Hearing Officer, for the New York State Department of Health for 21 years.

  • Issued enforcement actions when public health threats or violations were identified.

  • Presided over Office Hearings and negotiated Stipulated Agreements.

  • Prepared and presented cases before Administrative Law Judges at Administrative Hearings.

  • Testified at Tribunal hearings.

  • Supervised a staff of 35 during her tenure with the New York State Department of Health.

  • Worked with the community at the Love Canal Inactive Hazardous Waste site for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

  • Completed a voluntary Judicial Campaign Ethics Training Program.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Medicine/Biology from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.

  • Master of Science in Environmental Education from Cornell University.
